An end table is intended to make it easy for people sitting in an armchair to reach their drinks, nibbles or books and newspapers without having to bend down over the side of their chair to do so. The same with a coffee table _ it should be set at a comfortable height. Your first priority should therefore be the dimensions of your coffee and end tables. A coffee table should ideally be at just above knee height. Your end tables should be level with the arm of the chair or sofa. This will enable you to each to the side and pick up a drink with very little effort. Too high or too low, and it is more easy to spill even to drop your cup or glass.
Quick Styling Tips: _ Books are key items, a couple of stacks of coffee table books you love, arranged at one end, or opposite sides. _ Trays are key to creating a style when there isn't much happening, either contrast the shape of the table (i.e. round on square, or square on round), or go for the same shape, positioned perpendicular or off centre, place a vase with fresh flowers or a candle holder, and throw your remotes in. _ Pretty boxes also make an easy display; placed on top of a few magazines or stack a couple in differing sizes & colours, they will add an instant display and also form a place where you can hide the remotes. _ Create a more personal style with one or two small objects or knickknacks placed on a stack of books or on a box. _ Fresh Flowers_ a sculptural vase or bowl will often form the focus of coffee tables, for extra punch; fill it with fresh flowers when guests come round.
